Alexandra Wallace, UCLA Student, Films Racist Rant (Video)

Wallace issued an apology Monday, saying "I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would." See more here.

Self-identified UCLA student Alexandra Wallace has gained national notoriety -- and more than 1,000,000 views -- for posting a YouTube video which shows her in a 3-minute long tirade against Asian students.

In the clip, called "Asians in the Library," Wallace says the "hordes of Asians" at UCLA lack American manners. She also mocks their speech and faults them for calling family in the wake of the tsunami. "I swear they're going through their whole families just checking on everybody from the tsunami thing," she said.

She continues:

All the Asian people that live in all the apartments around me...and everybody that they know that they brought along from Asia with them comes here on the weekends to do their laundry, buy their groceries, and cook their food for the week.

It's seriously without fail, you will always see old Asian people running around this apartment complex every weekend. That's what they do. They don't teach their kids to fend for themselves...

Hi. In America we do not talk on our cell phones in the library...I'll be typing away furiously, blah blah blah, and then all of the sudden, when I'm about to, like, reach an epiphany, over here from somewhere, 'OHH Ching chong ling long ting tong? OHH'

She concludes the video by saying that "even if you're not Asian you really shouldn't be on your cell phone in the library." How diplomatic.

The Daily Bruin reports that university spokesman Phil Hampton called the video repugnant, and added that the student is inquiring into whether Wallace is enrolled as a student.

Japan Earthquake 2011: 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits, 13-Foot Tsunami Triggered

A powerful tsunami spawned by the largest earthquake in Japan's recorded history slammed the eastern coast Friday, sweeping away boats, cars, homes and people as widespread fires burned out of control. A local news report said at least 15 people were killed.

The magnitude 8.9 offshore quake was followed by at least 19 aftershocks, most of them of more than magnitude 6.0. Dozens of cities and villages along the 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometer) stretch of the country's eastern shore were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the epicenter in the sea off the northeastern coast.

A tsunami warning was issued for the entire Pacific, including areas as far away as South America, the entire U.S. West Coast, Canada and Alaska.

Kyodo news agency said 15 people were killed. The government confirmed only five deaths.

"The earthquake has caused major damage in broad areas in northern Japan," Prime Minister Naoto Kan said at a news conference.

Even for a country used to earthquakes, this one was of horrific proportions.

Large fishing boats and other sea vessels rode high waves into the cities, slamming against overpasses. Upturned and partially submerged vehicles were seen bobbing in the water.

Waves of muddy waters swept over farmland near the city of Sendai, carrying buildings, some on fire, inland as cars attempted to drive away. Sendai airport, north of Tokyo, was inundated with cars, trucks, buses and thick mud deposited over its runways. Fires spread through a section of the city, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The tsunami roared over embankments, washing cars, houses and farm equipment inland before reversing directions and carrying them out to sea. Flames shot from some of the houses, probably because of burst gas pipes.

"Our initial assessment indicate that there has already been enormous damage," Chief government spokesman Yukio Edano said. "We will make maximum relief effort based on that assessment."

He said the Defense Ministry was sending troops to the quake-hit region. A utility aircraft and several helicopters were on the way.

A large fire erupted at the Cosmo oil refinery in Ichihara city in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo and was burning out of control with 100-foot (30 meter) -high flames whipping into the sky.

NHK showed footage of a large ship being swept away and ramming directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 2:46 p.m. quake was a magnitude 8.9, the biggest earthquake to hit Japan since officials began keeping records in the late 1800s, according to NHK.

A tsunami warning was extended to a number of Pacific, Southeast Asian and Latin American nations, including Japan, Russia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Chile. In the Philippines, authorities said they expect a 3-foot (1-meter) high tsunami.

Pia Toscano Sings All By Myself By Eric Carmen: Video

Pia Toscano killed it on Wednesday night’s episode of American Idol.

Pia Toscano did a song that had been covered by her idol Celine Dion. But it was originally sung …and made famous…by Eric Carmen back in 1975.

What did the judges think of her performance? Jennifer Lopez seemed to approve, “I think a lot of people were wondering what you were going to do to top last week. There it is.” And Randy Jackson said “You have such a natural gift, that, dude, I love it. I’m in awe.”

Check out the vintage video of Eric Carmen and the cover by Pia Toscano.

Millions of dead fish in Redondo Beach, California

This is what millions of dead fish floating in a harbour looks like:
Pretty shocking huh?
This happened at Kings Harbour, in Redondo Beach California over the last day Fish, including anchovies, sardines and mackerel were floating lifeless in Basins 1 and 2 of the north side of the Harbour.

"There’s basically fish everywhere you go in the harbor," said the harbor's assistant manager, Jason McMullin, who added that there were reports that a red tide which is a naturally occurring bloom of toxic algae that can poison fish or starve them of oxygen, may have driven the fish into the harbor in massive numbers where they died because of limited oxygen.

Water testing and examination of the dead fish helped scientists rule out that an algal bloom cycle known as a red tide caused the die-off, said Andrew Hughan, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Game.

“Every indication is that this is a naturally occurring event,” he said. “It’s just a mess. It’s going to smell for a while, but the city’s doing a great job with the cleanup.”

Wes Leonard Basketball Player Dies (VIDEO)

FENNVILLE, Mich. — A western Michigan high school basketball player collapsed on the court and later died after making the game-winning shot to cap his team’s perfect season.

RELATED: 25 reasons we love Michael Jordan

Fennville High School basketball player Wes Leonard, 16, died Thursday night, Holland Hospital spokeswoman Deb Patterson said. A cause of death has not yet been determined.
“It’s tough to take in,” Leonard’s teammate Shane Bale, told The Holland Sentinel. “It’s like somebody from your family, you know?”
Paramedics performed CPR on Leonard before he was pronounced dead at the hospital, Patterson said.
Leonard had scored the game-winning layup in a 57-55 win over Bridgman in overtime to cap Fennville’s 20-0 season. He fell to the ground after teammates and fans rushed the court.
“Obviously, in the midst of celebration, I think shocking is exactly the word,” Fennville Superintendent Dirk Weeldreyer told the paper before Leonard’s ambulance left the high school.
Leonard also was a quarterback for the high school football team.
He’s the second Fennville athlete to die in 14 months. Wrestler Nathaniel Hernandez died in January of 2010 after suffering a seizure at home following his participation in a high school wrestling match. He was 14.

In an interview with the Sentinel at Tuesday’s practice, Fennville coach Ryan Klingler talked about how Leonard had a great drive to succeed and that he saw the “bigger picture.”

Selena Gomez Punched In the Face By Bieber Fan!

All it took was a few recently snapped photos of the young actress leaving an LA eatery with the Biebs to kick-start the trend #sorryjustin on Twitter. In the pics, it looks like Selena is covering her face, or that her lip was busted. JB walks next to her with what seems like a concerned look on his face.

But it turns out that these two were merely trying to duck the twenty million flash bulbs that were going off in their faces. On top of that, Gomez’s people insisted that she wasn’t injured or attacked, and before long, the trend disappeared.

This has all led me to wax philosophically about Bieber fans. I have noticed that some of them seem to use rumors and trending hashtags as a sort of online catharsis.

Take the supposed threats she has received from his avid fans. I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet that the average tweenage girl with a Beibs poster over her bed wouldn’t ACTUALLY go after her. Sure, sure, hormonal adolescents shouldn’t be underestimated, but so far nothing has happened outside of the web.

Then there are the rumors. Once pictures of them kissing surfaced online they started kicking into over drive. My theory is that his fans use Twitter to release their pent-up jealous rage without having to leave home. Oh, and the fact that the trend was #sorryjustin speaks volumes—they would actually have more sympathy for him than Selena if she did get punched!

So keep projecting your angst through your keyboards and out onto the web JB fans. After all, it may be a healthy way to work out some of that tension without having to violate the curfew set by your parents.

Conclusion: was Selena Gomez punched in the face? Nope. Sorry.
